Pediatric Care

What is pediatric dentistry?

Pediatric dentists can offer more gentle and compassionate care, as children have different needs than adults when it comes to dental care. Pediatric dentistry promotes the dental care of children as well as educating parents on proper dental hygiene and regular checkups.  Kids are more susceptible to problems like cavities when regular dental hygiene is neglected. Taking your child to a dentist regularly can help address these issues.

Why should young children go to the dentist?

Dental hygiene plays a very important role in the oral health of young children. From a very early age, it is important for children to establish good hygiene habits like brushing and visiting the dentist. In fact, the CDC recommends that parents wipe babies’ gums twice a day before their teeth even come in and that they see the dentist sometime before their first birthday.

By visiting the dentist as a child, the Townsley Family Dentistry team may be able to spot early problems before they become significant. As children get older, it is essential to teach them how to brush their teeth well and schedule regular cleaning appointments to remove plaque and tartar that doesn’t come off with brushing alone.

Pediatric hygiene dental appointments can help educate children and parents on the best ways to care for their child’s teeth to help prevent cavities and periodontal disease. At Townsley Family Dentistry in Foley, we may also take x-rays or apply fluoride treatments to a child’s teeth. We always go the extra mile to help children feel comfortable in Dr. Richardson and Dr. Townsley’s chair.
